RESEARCH TOPIC QUESTION

How does my topic affect personal life, student life and community life?

PLAGIARISM - What should I know?

  • All research is based on the work of others
  • Academic integrity demands that you inform your reader which author’s words, expressions or ideas you are borrowing

  • You must acknowledge sources within the text by using parenthetical citations
  • Be careful to indicate when you have borrowed exact language by using quotation marks or indenting for a block quote…then cite!
  • Paraphrasing means putting the ideas or expressions of an author into your own words. You must also cite paraphrased parts of your paper.
  • Make sure to include an accurate List of References showing all of the resources you have used
  • Use the APA guide Sixth edition as your style guide. For more information see Purdue Owl: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/

  • Plagiarism  is theft and considered to be both lying and cheating in all academic communities
  • Plagiarism has academic consequences
  • Outside of academics plagiarism can result in loss of employment, a lawsuit or in loss of professional credibility
